(ECNS) -- Amazon.com said it would open a pop-up store on Chinese e-commerce platform Pinduoduo during the Black Friday sales period.
The U.S. firm said the store would run from Nov. 25 until the end of December to promote about 1,000 products from overseas among Chinese consumers.
Amazon.com has held similar promotions during the annual shopping season with other partners in China including Tencent, Ctrip and Chinese banks, often in the form of discounts or coupons.
The latest move has sparked a lot of attention since Amazon.com this year stopped operating a marketplace in the country for domestic-selling merchants and also because Pinduoduo, known for offering group purchase deals with big discounts and a huge consumer base in rural areas and small cities, is quickly catching up with domestic giants like Alibaba and JD.com.
Amazon.com also runs a mini-program on China’s popular social media app WeChat to woo Chinese consumers to buy overseas products.
